Augustine College and First Freedoms are pleased to announce the 2022 Weston-Diefenbaker lecture titled A Free Society Makes Constitutional Rights Meaningful by Professor Ryan Alford.Professor Ryan Alford teaches at Lakehead University and is faculty supervisor of Bora Laskin’s chapter of the Runnymede Society, dedicated to debating the ideals of constitutionalism, individual liberty and the rule of law. He has successfully defended freedom of speech and debate in Parliament in the Ontario Superior Court and is taking part in the Rouleau Commission on the use of the Emergencies Act. He is the author of Seven Absolute Rights and Permanent State of Emergency: Unchecked Executive Power and the Demise of Rule of Law.

The lecture will be held in the sanctuary of St. Peter & St. Paul’s, 152 Metcalfe Street, Ottawa, Ontario, with a reception in the College space upstairs.
