With the federal election on the horizon the prime minister has decided to make abortion a topic of discussion – again. A number of years ago Barry wrote a law review article on the Liberal Government’s imposition of a “values test” on applicants for Canada Summer Jobs grants. All those who were not in agreement with the government’s ideological position on abortion were denied funding. Now the issue is the charitable status of pro-life pregnancy care centres. In this video Barry refers to his published article’s section on the legal status of abortion in Canada’s constitution. To the surprise of many there is no constitutional right to abortion – at least not yet. Barry is of the view that given the “progressive” stance of this current Supreme Court of Canada it would so rule it a constitutional right.
