This is part two of a two-part interview with Lauren Heuser, the founder of “Canadian Affairs,” a newly launched digital newspaper for Canadian professionals and families.

In this episode, Barry and Lauren discuss the Online News Act and its effect on digital news startups’ ability to reach audiences through social media and search engines. Lauren voices concern that this new legislation favours the interests of legacy publishers over emerging news startups, which rely almost entirely on social media and search engines to reach audiences.

Lauren discusses the looming impact of this bill – diminished and poorer news content due to cost implications. She commends the Conservative Party’s vocal stance against the Online News Act and hopes for further advocacy against it from both the Conservatives and NDP.
