In this interview historian Patrice Dutil shares with Barry the story of John A. MacDonald in the 1867 election – the first federal election in the new country of Canada and his handling of the crisis of 1885. Many issues facing Canada today with respect to its relationship with United States, the economy, immigration, and working with provincial differences remain with us today.
Dr. Dutil shares his concerns with the lack of knowledge about Canadian history and the failure of public officials to stand up to protected MacDonald’s reputation against the unwarranted attacks against his character and reputation.
